Hocus Pocus automatically conjures up imagery of witches, wizards, magic and everything associated with it. And if you did think of this, then you’re very much on track for understanding the theme of this slot. It deals with everything relating to the world of magic. So, if you’re ready to get your wizardry hat on, then get spinning. Hocus Pocus takes you right into an old magician’s life. He wanders the forests of the world at night, seeking out any invading trolls, demons and other evils. Should he come across one of these monsters, he will cast it out of the forest in one flash of magic. However, he has recently come up against some tougher figures. That’s where you come in. Your assistance could be the only thing that helps the wizard in defeating the world’s terrible monsters. The design of this online slot game provides players with a total of five reels and three rows. This means that you will see a familiar enough design on display. Alongside this, players have the chance to place bets on a total of 20 different pay lines. These lines are fully customisable though, so if you feel that there are too many in action, just utilise the relevant plus and minus buttons. These can be found in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. And underneath this, there’s the plus and minus buttons for changing around your wager. There, you can choose from coin values between $0.01 and $1 per coin. This means that with all of the game’s lines in action, you will be placing a maximum overall bet of $20 per spin. And there’s also the inclusion of an ‘Auto Start’ button for you to use. This sets the reels off spinning up to 100 consecutive times at the same wager level.

As well as having a familiar layout with nicely customisable betting options, Hocus Pocus also incorporates some intriguing graphics too. The background takes you to one of the forests that the wizard is making his way through. Meanwhile, the icons that appear on the slot’s reels are also fairly impressive as well. These begin with symbols of four different shapes. The circle, the triangle, the square and the pyramid. They make up the game’s lowest paying icons. After this, there’s a symbol of the wizards hat. If you bring five of this symbol on to a winning bet line, you’ll receive up to $400 as a pay out. A magic scroll acts as another symbol on the reels, while you’ll also find a spell book as one more. The very highest paying standard icon of this slot though, is that of the wizard himself. He has the ability to provide a maximum pay out of $5,000 to players.

As we said, the wizard is in need of a little bit of help to clear the forests of their monsters. Fortunately, both you and Merkur’s special features come into play here. First of all, there’s a wild symbol which will assist you greatly. This comes in the shape of the wizard’s spellcasting hands. As a wild, this one will substitute for all others on the reels in order to form a winning combination. The only exception to this particular rule is the game’s bonus icon offering.

And speaking of the bonus icon, this is the present in the shape of the magical orb in a dragon’s claw clasp. This works as the trigger for the slot’s freespins round. You need to bring three of them into view on a winning bet line in order to achieve this. Doing so will present you with six freespins for you to play through. During this round, the wizard’s hat, the spell book and the scroll symbols all turn into scatter offerings. This means that they will pay out their regular amounts regardless of which position they appear in. You’ll also see the inclusion of a dice symbol during this round. Three of these showing up in any position will add between two and four extra freespins. Four of them will add between four and 10 extra freespins. And if you bring five of them into view in any location, you’ll receive between six and 15 freespins.

Lastly, there’s also the addition of a gamble feature in this slot. You have the chance to choose between two different side games for this. The gamble feature automatically activates itself whenever you form a win in the base game or when freespins finishes. If you select the Card Gamble round, you’ll see a face down playing card show up in the screen. You need to try and guess the colour of this card. Red or black. If you get this colour correct, then you’ll see your winnings from the triggering round are given a double multiplier. Alternatively, you can choose to play the Ladder Gamble round. This gives you a ladder of higher and lower values than your winnings. You need to try and climb the ladder as high as you can to increase your winnings.

Classic! Hocus Pocus was a wonderfully colorful and fun platformer. So many memories of this one. One of the best of 1994 for sure.

Right after Duke Nukem II, one of my favorite platformers for DOS!
I already loved the nice colorful designs, the varied and imaginitive monsters to defeat (even if they mostly do the same attacks as some of the other foes in the game) and, of course, the great music!
All in all a all-time-favorite of mine! And by far too much underrated sometimes... :)
